Coen Zuidema (also Coenraad Zuidema , born August 29, 1942 in Surakarta , Indonesia ) is a Dutch chess player .

Zuidema studied mathematics at the Free University of Amsterdam between 1960 and 1968 . From 1974 until his retirement he worked for IBM .

In 1964 he became international champion of FIDE , in 1972 he won the Dutch chess championship . He won the Dutch team championship in 1970 with Watergraafsmeer .

Zuidema took part with the Dutch national team at the Chess Olympiads in 1964 , 1966 , 1970 and 1972 as well as the European Team Championship in 1965. He also took part in the student team world championships in 1960 and 1966 with the Netherlands.

At FIDE, Zuidema is listed as inactive, as he has not played an Elo rated game since 1976 . His best historical Elo rating before the Elo rating was introduced is 2507, which he achieved in July 1966.
