The town festival

The annual festival in honor of Saint Christopher (San Cristobal) and Saint Joseph (San José) takes place from September 20th to 25th. During this time you can hear music from one of the many Colcamar brass bands throughout the village. Traditionally , makeshift tents are set up on the plaza, the central square, where everyone can try typical dishes from the region. In addition, there are always candy dealers, jugglers and gambling providers who seem to come from centuries ago. During the festival not only a lot of beer is consumed, but also various sugar cane schnapps, which are produced in very large quantities in Colcamar. The "inexperienced" stomach is expressly advised against consumption. Most evenings in part of the village there is the Baile sociál, the dance that should not be missing from any festival. Sometimes there is an admission fee, and very well-known groups often play. Of course, the religious component is not neglected either, every day the statue of a different saint is carried through the village and is accompanied by hundreds of women with candlesticks and a group of musicians and dancers decorated with feathers.

Directions

The best way to get to Colcamar is from Chachapoyas , from where there are regular taxi and bus services.
