The Noah's Ark timeless ( Colchicum trigynum ) (three-stemmed timeless) is a species of the timeless genus ( Colchicum ) in the timeless family (Colchicaceae).
description
The Noah's Ark Timeless is a perennial bulbous plant that reaches heights of 5 to 10 centimeters. The tubers are erect and ovoid. The rarely 2, usually 3 to 4 leaves are bare. At flowering time they measure 1.5 to 7 × 0.2 to 1.7 centimeters and are shorter than the flowers , later they reach 10 to 22 × 0.4 to 3 centimeters. The mostly 1 to 2, rarely 3 flowers are white to pinkish purple. The tepal sheaths measure 18 to 40 × 4 to 10 millimeters, are narrowly lanceolate and mostly have auricles.
The seemingly divided flower stalks are striking. The flowers (one to three pieces) each consist of six petals. They each arise from a short (mostly hidden) stem and consist of long, thin stems that appear to form a tube. The flowering period extends from March to April, rarely beginning in February. It can be about 3 weeks at low temperatures.
Occurrence
The Noah's Ark Timeless occurs in Turkey (with the exception of the north-west), in the Caucasus, in Transcaucasia and in northern Iran on dry mountain slopes and open meadows at altitudes of 1300 to 2800 (rarely from 750) meters.
