Cold 187um or Big Hutch (* as Gregory Hutchinson Fernan ) is an American rapper and record producer of styles of West Coast hip hop , gangsta rap and G-funk . Prior to his solo career, he was best known as the leader of Above the Law .

biography

Cold 187um is the nephew of singer Willie Hutch . He grew up in South Central Los Angeles .

In 1989 he founded the group Above the Law with three other people . As their leader, he released five albums up to and including 1998 . The group then founded their own label , West World Records, and signed a distribution deal with Street Solid. Cold 187um used this opportunity to sign a contract as part of the group as well as a solo artist.

In 1999 he made his solo debut Executive Decisions . Just like the next album by Above the Law, which was released in the same year, however, it could not record any chart successes.

Cold 187um then moved to Death Row Records in 2000, together with Above the Law , where he became the new house producer. In this role he worked on 2Pac's posthumously released album Until the End of Time as arranger , mixer and keyboard player , as well as producer and rapper on the compilation Too Gangsta for Radio and Snoop Dogg's album Dead Man Walkin ', which was compiled from old recordings .

Music under his own name did not appear, however, so he left Death Row again and released his second album Live from the Ghetto in 2004 . Fresh Out the Pen followed in 2008 . In November 2010, the EP EF U Hutch , on which only three songs were, was released before the long player Only God Can Judge Me followed in 2011 .

In the same year he went on tour with the Insane Clown Posse , with whom he had already collaborated on their album The Wraith: Shangri-La in 2002. This led to his being signed to their label Psychopathic Records in 2012 . Here he recorded the concept album The Only Solution . Cold 187um then assumed the identity of the fictional "Psychopathic Assassin" (English for psychopathic assassin) who wants to take revenge for the murder of his father, who was a contract killer and of "Black Swan" (" Grief Swan "), the uncle of the Psychopathic Assassins, was killed. The album became Cold 187um's only chart success as a solo artist when it was featured on the Billboard 200 for a week in late 2012 .

Nevertheless, it remained with this unique collaboration with Psychopathic Records and the albums We Stay ... Above the Law (together with The Southland Gangsters) and The Big Hit , which were released within two weeks in 2014 , were released on other labels, as was the double album The Blackgodfather by 2016.
