Coleen Rowley (born December 20, 1954 ) is an American whistleblower and former candidate for the US Congress of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party and a former agent of the FBI . She received the Sam Adams Award and was named " Person of the Year " in 2002.

Career

Rowley is a Juris Doctor (according to scholars of law), her alma mater the "College of Law" of the University of Iowa . At Wartburg College reached before a degree in French.

FBI

During her service with the FBI from 1984 as "Special Agent" there were various posts abroad, for example at the US Embassy in Paris and within the USA. From 1990 she was "Chief legal adviser" (German: Senior Advisor in Legal Matters) in the Minneapolis office . After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , she wrote to then FBI director Robert Mueller , denouncing the misconduct of her colleagues in investigations into people suspected of terrorism.

"During the early aftermath of September 11th, when I happened to be recounting the pre-September 11th events concerning the Moussaoui investigation to other FBI personnel in other divisions or in FBIHQ, almost everyone's first question was" Why? - Why would an FBI agent (s) deliberately sabotage a case? (I know I shouldn't be flippant about this, but jokes were actually made that the key FBIHQ personnel had to be spies or moles, like Robert Hanssen, who were actually working for Osama Bin Laden to have so undercut Minneapolis' effort.) "

“During the first period after September 11th, when I summed up what happened before September 11th about the 'Moussaoui' investigation, the reaction of other employees here or at headquarters was practically always: 'Why? - Why would FBI agents knowingly sabotage such a case? ' (I know I shouldn't be snippy, but jokes have been made that executives at headquarters are double agents or moles like Robert Hanssen who really work with Osama bin Laden and so undermine our morale.) "

She was then summoned to appear before the United States Senate and the Commission of Inquiry into the 9/11 attacks . There she repeated her statements under oath . As a result, on the initiative of Senator Chuck Grassley, there was a significant restructuring of the FBI. Rowley has been considered a whistleblower ever since.

In 2004 she ended her career after 24 years of service.

politics

2005/06 sought Rowley with the support of the Democrat John Murtha to a seat in the House of Representatives of the United States , but was subject to the Republican John Kline .
