Colette Magny

Colette Magny (born October 31, 1926 in Paris , † June 12, 1997 in Villefranche-de-Rouergue ) was a French singer and songwriter .

Live and act

Magny worked as a foreign language secretary for the OECD from 1948 to 1964 . She took guitar lessons from Claude Luter and also performed as a blues singer before she pursued a career as a chanson singer and had her first hit with Melocoton in 1963 . Politicized by the Algerian war , she wrote protest songs like Le Mal de Vivre , which the ORTF did not broadcast. This was followed by albums like Vietnam 67 , on which she continued to take a political stance. On her album Feu et rythme , which was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque of the Charles Cros Academy , she worked with a contemporary ensemble as well as with the free jazzers Beb Guérin and Barre Phillips . These and other free jazz musicians such as François Tusques or Noel McGhie were also active on the follow-up album Repression , which dealt with censorship and political repression. On the album Thanakan she dealt with the lyrics of Antonin Artaud . In the last years of life it could hardly appear due to illness.

In 1984 she was awarded the Tenco Prize .
