With the promoted he managed an excellent season in the Football League First Division 1977/78 . Barrett scored one goal in thirty-five league games and won the English championship with Forest. The team secured another title in the league cup final through a win over Liverpool FC, in which, however, Frank Clark was used instead of Colin Barrett. After losing his regular place during the 1978/79 season , he was nominated in the league cup final in 1979 for Viv Anderson and played the full distance in the 3-2 win over Southampton FC. For this he found no squad consideration in the final of the European Cup 1978/79 , which Forest won 1-0 against the Swedish champions Malmö FF . In the first round of the competition, Barrett scored the decisive goal to make it 2-0 in a 2-0 home win over Liverpool FC.
