Karl Wilhelm von Brausen

Karl Wilhelm von Brause (also von Brausen ) (* 1723 on Gut Kirchkawe near Posen ; † December 13, 1801 in Neuruppin ) was a Prussian officer , most recently major general and chief of the "von Platen" dragoon regiment No. 8 .

Life

origin

Karl Wilhelm came from the originally Polish noble family von Brause . He was the son of Johann Georg von Brause, Lord of Kirchkawe near Posen and his wife Eleonore, née von Blankenburg .

Military career

Brause received his basic military training on February 2, 1739 as a cadet in Berlin . On June 16, 1742 he joined the cuirassier regiment "August Wilhelm of Prussia" No. 2 as an Estandartenjunker . During the Second Silesian War he was involved in the battles at Hohenfriedberg , Soor and the siege of Prague . In 1745 he was promoted to cornet and in 1753 to secondary lieutenant. In 1756 he took part in the battle of Lobositz . In 1757 he was appointed lieutenant and in 1759 staff assistant master. On February 25, 1760 Brause was appointed company commander while being promoted to Rittmeister . It was promoted to major in 1762 and as such was appointed regimental commander in 1768, now under the boss Heinrich von Prussia and later Georg Ludwig von Wiersbitzky .

In 1770 he was transferred to the 7th cuirassier regiment "von Manstein" . In this regiment, which he briefly headed as commander in 1784, he was appointed lieutenant colonel on May 29, 1773 and colonel in 1781 and took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . In June 1784 he switched to the "Graf von Posadowsky" No. 6 dragoon regiment as commander . There he was appointed major general on May 27, 1785. In June 1787 he became chief of the former Dragoon Regiment "von Platen" No. 8 and received the order Pour le Mérite on June 7, 1789 at the review at Heiligenbeil . In July 1790 he retired with a pension of 1200 thalers .

Brause was married to Ottilie Dorothea Sophie Elisabeth von Platen (born August 22, 1743 in Wutike ) since February 18, 1764 . The following children were born out of the marriage:
