Colin Gieg

Colin Kenneth Gieg (* 6. July 1942 in San Mateo , California ; † 11. March 2013 in Denver , Colorado ) was an American jazz - bassist .

Colin Gieg grew up in Bakersfield , where he first had piano lessons at the age of seven; after that he learned guitar and high school double bass. In 1960 he moved to Los Angeles to study at Westlake College of Music and the Los Angeles Conservatory. a. with Ralph Peña . He then worked in California as a professional musician, u. a. with the Four Freshmen , Sue Raney , the Don Ellis Jazz Orchestra and with Johnny Mathis . After he had to interrupt his career to do his military service, he moved to Denver in 1970 , where he worked as a local musician and performed at festivals and jazz parties. Gieg can be heard in productions by Rusty Warren ( More Knockers Up ! , 1965), Johnny Varro / Randy Sandke , Peanuts Hucko ( Jazz Live Montreux '89 ) and Phil Urso ( Salute Chet Baker 2003).

Gieg died at the age of 70 on March 11, 2013 in Denver of pancreatic cancer .
