Colinet de Lannoy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Colinet de Lannoy , also Nicolas de Lannoy (active in the 2nd half of the 15th century; † before February 6, 1497) was a Franco-Flemish composer and singer of the early Renaissance .

Live and act

So far, music historical research has not been able to obtain precise information about the year and place of birth of Colinet de Lannoy. He probably came from the Laon area . It is known from a document dated February 6, 1477, in which a group of singers was released from the ducal chapel in Milan after their employer, Duke Galeazzo Maria Sforza, was murdered on December 26 of the previous year. Johannes Martini , Jean Japart and Loyset Compère were among Lannoy's escorts who were also released in the secured convoy that left Milan . Nothing is known about Lannoy's further life and stay. He could have been related to two other singers in the French court orchestra, who were performed in the Déploration on the death of Johannes Ockeghem (1497) by the poet Guillaume Crétin, alongside several other well-known musicians: Jehan de Lannoy (recorded 1447–1468) and David de Lannoy (documented 1461-1475). On the other hand, he is certainly not identical with a Karolus de Lannoy , verifiable in Bourges , Mantua , Florence and Bologna , by marriage to Heinrich Isaac and died in 1506. Due to the mention in the aforementioned deploration , the music historians assume that Colinet de Lannoy died before February 6, 1497.

meaning

Colinet is considered to be the reliable author of the three-part rondeau song "Cela sans plus et puis hola", which was passed down many times and was obviously very popular at the time . This song is also available in a four-part version, whereby the added bass part could well come from Johannes Martini for reasons of style. In addition, this composition is in a handwriting by Fridolin Safe , transposed a fifth higher than the intabulation . Both Martini and Jacob Obrecht used this piece as the basis for masses , and the tenor part found its way into the five-part version of the composing Pope Leo X. (term of office 1513–1521). There are four sources for the song “Adieu naturlic leven min”, but only one of them contains this text incipit and is ascribed to Colinet.

The traditional measurement cycle is stylistically close to Johannes Martini and has come down to us in two different fragments. One anonymous fragment contains only Sanctus and Agnus Dei , the other contains Credo and Sanctus with the imprecise attribution to "Lannoy", so that this composition does not have to go back to Colinet de Lannoy.
