The College Formation , short CFB for College Formation Berlin , was a German soul and rock band. It was founded in East Berlin in 1972 and was considered one of the GDR's talent forges - rock music . The group's mentor was Konrad “Conny” Bauer .
Band history
The members were primarily music students and music school graduates from the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin , hence the name. The band's role models were Otis Redding , Wilson Pickett and James Brown , among others . At first they played after the titles of their role models.
From the spring of 1973, the College Formation was a professional orchestra, under the direction and management of Eberhard A. Henke, who also provided the equipment, the vehicles and the rehearsal room. The band took first place in a competition for the best East Berlin amateur groups in 1974 and was therefore delegated to the 1974 Workers' Festival in Erfurt. A special feature of the band was the high proportion of brass musicians and singers. The band included the later founding member of Silly , Mathias Schramm , the trumpeter Mathias Pflugbeil, who had already played with Stern-Combo Meißen and Lift , the trombonist Johannes "Hannes" Bauer , two of the Caufner sisters , Juliane and Isa, as well the singer Hans Joachim "Neumi" Neumann , who was later active in Karat and Neumis Rock Circus . Neumann was replaced in 1973 by Toni Krahl , who in turn moved to City in 1975 . Even Klaus Lenz played some time in 1976 drums in the band.
The band's best-known song is When I Left You Later , the expressive setting of a poem by Bertolt Brecht .
After graduating from music school, the band members reoriented themselves. That meant the end of the group in 1976.
