Mathias Schramm

Mathias Schramm , also Matthias Schramm (born September 5, 1949 in Berlin ; † August 5, 2007 in Potsdam ) was a German musician , composer , arranger and music producer as well as a co-founder of the band Silly .

Life

Mathias Schramm studied at the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin . As a student he composed the jazz rock song When I went from you based on a text by Bertolt Brecht , which became one of the most famous songs of the college formation . In 1974 he was a co-founder of the Gerd Michaelis Choir Band. In 1978 he was one of the founders of the East Berlin band, the Silly family, and became their bass player. In 1978 he brought the singer Tamara Danz into the band. In 1980 the band was renamed Silly . The success of the Amiga -LP Mont Klamott is partly due to his compositions.

In 1981 he received the Golden Lyra from Bratislava for his composition Gute Nacht, Amigo . Together with Ritchie Barton , Thomas Fritzsching, Tamara Danz, Mike Schafmeier and Herbert Junck , he wrote songs such as Die wilde Mathilde , Mont Klamott , In the quiet evenings , So ne kleine Frau and Bataillon d'Amour . He helped shape the special style of the band and played a big part in the widespread attention and success of the early years.

After leaving Silly in 1986 - after the album Bataillon d'Amour was released - Schramm worked as a producer and vocal coach on the careers of young and established artists. From 1987 onwards several musical projects began, among others with Tino Eisbrenner for his first solo album Tino and the following Welcome to the World, Jacqueline Jacob , Bernd Bangel (formerly with Peter Holten Sextett , Babylon and Holger-Biege-Band ) and the band Knabe and caravan. In 1988 he composed the music for the television film Eine restruhige Nacht , an episode of the television series Polizeiruf 110 . Up until 1989 several LP projects arose in collaboration with the East Berlin poet Ralf Stobbe. He also worked for the songwriter duo Pension Volkmann , the Jonathan Blues Band and the Bluegrass Breakdown band.

In 2007, Wilk and Friends produced the song Country on the Wall, one of his last works.

On August 5, 2007, Schramm died surprisingly at the age of 57 after going to a hospital in Potsdam the day before with severe stomach pain.

His son is the music producer and composer Rüdiger Schramm.
