The Gerd Michaelis Choir (also Gerd Michaelis Choir or Michaelis Choir ) was a vocal ensemble in the GDR , which was particularly successful in the Schlager genre , but also with political songs . Gerd Michaelis was the director of the choir.
history
The Gerd Michaelis Choir was founded in 1967 as part of the Wolfgang Brandenstein Ensemble. Until 1968 he was assigned to the Friedrichstadtpalast . The vocal ensemble consisted of around eight members; fluctuation was high. Several singers later became known as solo artists, including Jan Gregor , Henry Kotowski , Horst Krüger , Gerti Möller and Hartmut Schulze-Gerlach , who was successful under the name Muck . In addition to many concerts, radio and vinyl recordings under their own name, the Gerd Michaelis Choir or individual members of the choir took part in numerous other recordings. This includes a series of record productions with the Jo Kurzweg Orchestra and other orchestras.
In 1973 the choir had the hit Isabell with Schulze-Gerlach as a soloist .
In 1974 the Gerd Michaelis Choir Band was founded. Members were Mathias Schramm (bass guitar), Klaus-Peter Albrecht (guitar), Ulrich Bastian (keyboards), Bernhard Wachsmann (trombone) and Bernd Schimmler (drums). In 1976 the band broke up. In the same year, Gerd Michaelis gave up the direction of the choir for health reasons. Vlady Slezák continued it as a cantus choir.

The female members appeared at times as 4 women from the Gerd Michaelis choir . The later presenter, singer and actor Wolfgang Lippert began his stage career with the Gerd Michaelis Choir as an employee for organization and technology . Gerd Michaelis is the stepfather of singer Dirk Michaelis .
