Colony Northstar (until 2017: Colony Capital ) is an American company based in Los Angeles , California .

As a financial investor, the company has specialized in the acquisition of real estate and companies in the hotel and casino industry.

history

The company was founded in 1991 by Thomas J. Barrack in California. In 2000 the hotel company Resorts International Holdings in Nevada was acquired, including the American hotels The Atlantic Club Casino Hotel in New Jersey, Bally's Casino Tunica in Mississippi and the LVH - Las Vegas Hotel and Casino (formerly Las Vegas Hilton ) in Belong to Nevada.

In 2005 Colony Capital acquired the hotel company Raffles International . The chain includes 41 hotels and resorts under the Raffles , Fairmont and Swissôtel brands in 35 countries, including the Raffles Hotel in Singapore, the chain's best-known hotel.

In 2006, Colony Capital took over the French football club Paris Saint-Germain from the French television channel Canal + , which had been owned by PSG since 1991. In 2011 Colony Capital sold 70 percent of its shares to the Qatar Sport Investment (QSI) investor group from Qatar .

In January 2017, Colony Capital merged with NorthStar to become Colony Northstar.
