character

The number of translations available varies from song to song. Chants that are already widely used internationally in their original language have been taken over without translation. These include the classic liturgical chants such as Kyrie , Gloria and Hallelujah , but also English-language spirituals , Hebrew chants from Israel and songs from the Taizé community . This type of song is accompanied by a paraphrase in English, French and German for the three conference languages of the CPCE; these paraphrases primarily serve to understand the content; as a rule they cannot be sung.

Multilingualism

In the hymn book Colors of Grace, the verses of the songs in the respective languages were selected so that they correspond in terms of content. So they are provided with the same stanza numbers. It will be possible to sing songs in an international way in up to nine languages simultaneously and together. Whenever possible, the text versions were taken from the currently officially valid hymn books of the respective languages. The twenty languages used in the songs are:

  • Danish
  • German
  • English
  • Finnish
  • French
  • Greek
  • Hebrew
  • Italian
  • Catalan
  • Croatian
  • Latin
  • Dutch
