The International Working Group for Hymnology (IAH), founded in 1959 , registered association since 1992 with its seat in Heidelberg , is an association that advocates the maintenance and research of church singing on an international, interdenominational and interdisciplinary level.

The members of the IAH currently come from 28 countries. Due to the interdisciplinary orientation of the IAH, they represent such diverse research areas as theology , literature , linguistics , books and musicology .

Study meetings

Since 1965, the IAH has held international conferences every second year (previously every three years) at which hymnological topics are discussed. The fact that the conferences take place in a different country is intended to promote exchange on an international and interdenominational level. Since 1981 there have been joint conferences with the two sister societies, the Hymn Society of Great Britain and Ireland and the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada, at different intervals. In addition, IAH members also organize smaller, regional workshops.

Publications

The association is one of the co-editors of the Liturgy and Hymnology Yearbook . The IAH bulletin and communications from the IAH are also published regularly . In 1997 the IAH published the multilingual ecumenical hymn book Unisono .
