Compoca North

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A new type of ship is currently being developed in the Netherlands , the CompoCa Nord. This ship is made entirely of composite materials and, with a length of 67.0 m and a width of 5.75 m, should comply with the Canal-du-Nord dimensions. A consortium of Dutch companies involved in lightweight construction has developed this ship. The name CompoCa continues in the Netherlands from Compo siet Ca nal du Nord together.

construction

The entire hull with superstructures and hatch covers is built from composite material. This results in a weight saving of 50 percent compared to a steel ship. The drive is diesel-electric with two rudder propellers aft and a bow thruster . The drive motors and generators , 2 × 200 kW are planned, are installed amidships between the two 22.50 m long holds. The fuel tanks are also installed there. This makes it possible to build an apartment over two levels in the aft ship. In the lower part there are three bedrooms, the bathroom and a fresh water and a waste water tank, above a 30 m² living room and the kitchen.

When empty, the ship should have a draft of around 0.30 m and, thanks to the arrangement of the machines in the middle of the ship, lie on a level keel. With a draft of 3.0 m, it has a load capacity of 900 tons. The savings in fuel costs that can be expected due to the lower weight are expected to recoup the additional costs of lightweight construction within five years. The area of application extends from Paris to Poland . Even at a water level of 1.20 meters, the ship can still transport 350 tons of cargo.

Construction and development costs

The construction and development costs for the first ship are estimated at 2.1 million euros. The EU Commission has provided 600,000 euros for the development costs. Later the ship will cost around 900,000 euros.
