history
From the mouth of the Saale to the Alsleben lock , barges drove with the so-called large Saale measure . Barges with the Hallesches Maß could pass the waterway as far as Halle including the Gimritz lock . Further in the direction of Unstrut , the river was only passable with boats of the Unstrut dimension . The size of the barge related to the respective route on which the ship could be used, taking into account the passability of the locks according to the lock dimensions. The measurements can vary in the literature, as there were slight deviations in the construction of the ships.
