Origin and meaning

The name is derived from the Portuguese salutation of the Virgin Mary ( Nossa Senhora da Conceição ; German: Our Lady of Conception ), which alludes to her immaculate conception .

In 2010, around 100,000 people in Brazil bore the name. In the state of Bahia , the name is one of the five most common surnames with Santos , Jesus , Santana and Nascimento, which together carry around 31% of the population.
