Concept Insomnia is a Hessian progressive and melodic death metal band from Frankfurt am Main , which was founded in 2004.

history

The band was founded at the end of 2004, although the members were already active in various other school bands. The group consisted of the keyboardist and singer Lukas Hofmeister, the guitarists Jens Felten and David Gahl, the bassist Philipp Stroh and the drummer Martin Hockenjos. In addition, Gahl and Strohl occasionally contributed vocal passages. This was followed by a demo called No Words , which was mixed by the former Majesty guitarist Rolf Munkes . The demo was named "Demo of the Month" at Rock Hard . In the meantime, Sascha Ruth, a new drummer, had already joined the band. In addition, the Twisted Talent booking agency became aware of the band. In 2006 the band also played at the Soundgarden Festival . After another demo, the band was the only group to play at Wacken Open Air in 2008 without a record deal . In the same year she also played again at the Soundgarden Festival. In 2009 the band played with Gojira , among others , who were on their first tour of Germany. The debut album Perpetuum Mobile followed in 2010 via Evil Eye Entertainment , which also contained the four songs from the last demo. The album was released in Europe and North America . After that, the group separated from the label and also ended the collaboration with Twisted Talent.

Thereupon the group released their next album Kaleidoscope in self- publication and reached a contract with the booking agency REDlionmusic . In 2011 the band also played again at the Soundgarden Festival. In addition, a new drummer, Tobias Ellenberger, had joined the band. Meanwhile, the guitarist Felten left the band, whereupon they decided to continue with only one guitarist. Then Mekong Delta founder Ralf Hubert became aware of the band and released Kaleidoscope again on his own label Aarrgh Records in April 2013.

style

According to laut.de , sound parallels to Mercenary can be heard on Perpetuum Mobile . Detlef Dengler from Metal Hammer also drew comparisons to Mercenary in his review of Perpetuum Mobile and named Soilwork as another band . The band combine clear and guttural singing with melodies, but lacking independence. According to Marco Götz from Metal Hammer, the band play modern progressive metal on Kaleidoscope , in which the group let various influences flow. Songs like The White Intensive have riffs that the thrash metal are borrowed, "with progressive guitar bursts and clean vocals, the quite fast in Emo - Screams degenerates". There are also rap uses ( shading ) and poppy synthesizers with funk influences ( orange pigment ).
