Tahirou Congacou
Tahirou Congacou (* 1913 ; † 1994 ) was temporarily head of state in Dahomey, today's Benin , in 1965 .
Life
After the resignation of President Sourou-Migan Apithy , Congacou took over the post of head of state in his capacity as President of Parliament on November 29, 1965 . On December 22nd, 1965 , the Chief of Staff, General Christophe Soglo, took over the post himself until he was overthrown in a coup on December 19th, 1967 .
After the change of course towards a multi-party system by President Mathieu Kérékou , who had been ruling authoritatively since 1972 , a council (Haut Conseil pour la République) was formed on March 9, 1990 as the provisional highest body of the legislature. In addition to Congacou, this council also included the other ex-presidents Coutoucou Hubert Maga , Justin Ahomadegbé-Tomêtin and Émile Derlin Henri Zinsou . The transition phase ended on April 4, 1991 when the elected President Nicéphore Dieudonné Soglo took office .
