Conrado "Connie" Marrero Ramos (born April 25, 1911 in Sagua la Grande , Las Villas , † April 23, 2014 in Havana ) was a successful Cuban baseball player both in his home country and in the USA .

life and career

Conrado Marrero was born in 1911 in the finca "El Laberinto" in the catchment area of ​​Sagua la Grande. He played baseball from a very early age, but entered official competitions relatively late. However, he quickly developed into an excellent pitcher , first with the amateurs and later with the professionals .

Among other things, Marrero played for three seasons with the Habana Cubans and caught the attention of player observers from the US major leagues with his spectacular style of play . At an advanced age of 39 for professional athletes, he moved to the USA for the Washington Senators , for whom he played until 1955.

After his playing days he returned to Cuba and trained young talents there, among other things.

On the day of his death, Connie Marreo was the oldest former major league player. He died just two days before his 103rd birthday.
