Constantin Radu (born April 19, 1926 in Adjud , Vrancea district ) is a former Romanian politician of the Romanian Workers' Party PMR (Partidul Muncitoresc Român) and from 1965 of the PCR (Partidul Comunist Român) , who was among other things Deputy Prime Minister between 1987 and 1988 .

Life

Youth functionary and party secretary

After attending primary school, Radu completed vocational training between 1943 and 1947 and then worked from 1947 to 1948 as a machine fitter in the workshop of the Siretul wood factory in Adjud , his birthplace . In 1945 he became a union member and in 1948 a member of the youth organization of the UTM Labor Party (Uniunea Tineretului Muncitor) . In 1950 he moved to the Combine for Process Control , Exploitation and Industrialization of the Wood Industry IPEIL (Întreprinderea de Prelucrarea, Exploatarea și Industrializarea Lemnulu) in Gugești , where he was initially a mechanic in the branch in Odobești. Between 1951 and 1952 he graduated from the forestry school of locomotive mechanics in Cluj and was the UTM's organizational secretary there. He then worked as a locomotive mechanic at IPEIL from 1952 to 1953. He then attended the workers' faculty in Iași from 1953 to 1954 , where he was also the UTM's organizational secretary. During this time he joined the Romanian Workers' Party PMR (Partidul Muncitoresc Român) as a member in September 1953 and was a member of the People's Council of Iași between 1953 and 1954. Until November 1954 he was head of the transport department of IPEIL and in August 1954 he also became a member of the Central Committee (ZK) of the UTM.

Subsequently, Radu was from November 1954 to September 1955 instructor of the Focşani Party Committee and then attended the Regional Party School of Iaşi between September 1955 and 1956. Thereupon he taught himself from 1956 to 1958 as a lecturer for the history of the CPSU and the international labor movement at the regional party school in Gala undi and was at this time also a member of the organizational office of the basic organization there. After studying at the party college " tefan Gheorghiu " from 1958 to July 1961 , from July 1961 to January 1962 he was head of the section for political mass work of the propaganda and agitation department of the party committee in Galați district . He then served as President of the Regional Council of Trade Unions in Galați County between January 1962 and September 1964 and was also a member of the Office of the Party Committee in Galați County from January 1962 to February 1966. In 1964, he also completed a degree in economics at the Bucharest Business Academy (Academia de Studii Economice) and was then head of the propaganda and agitation department of the party committee in Galați district between 1965 and February 1966.

In February 1966 Radu became First Secretary of the Brăila City Party Committee and held this post until February 1968. He then served as First Secretary of the Brăila City Party Committee between February 1968 and 1971, President of the Executive Committee of the Brăila People's Council and a member of the Office of the Party Committee Brăila County . On August 12, 1969, he became a member of the Central Revision Commission (ZRK) and was a member of this body until November 28, 1974. From 1971 to May 15, 1973 he was the deputy head of the Central Committee Department for Organization and then from May 15, 1973 to 1974 an instructor of the Central Committee. On October 1, 1987, he took over the office of Vice-Prime Minister (Vice-primministru al Guvernului) and held this office until May 21, 1988.

Radu served from May 21, 1988 to February 3, 1989 as first secretary of the Bucharest City Party Committee and was also president of the executive committee of the capital's People's Council. In May 1988 he also became a member of the Central Commission for the organization and modernization of processes in production and the acquisition of high-quality raw materials and materials, and a member of the Central Commission for the Optimization of Transport. He also became a candidate of the Political Executive Committee of the Central Committee on June 28, 1988 and held this position until November 24, 1989. On February 3, 1989, Radu was again a member of the Central Committee of the PCR, to which he was a member until December 22, 1989. Furthermore, on February 3, 1989, he became a member of the Central Committee Secretariat again and was a member of this body until November 24, 1989.

Radu has received several awards for his many years of service, including the Order of 23rd August Third Class in 1974 (Ordinul 23 August) and in 1986 the Order of Labor First Class (Ordinul Muncii) .
