A container building is a building that is constructed from containers using a room-cell construction . They are equipped in such a way that people can live, live or work in them for a period of a few days to several years. The size of these buildings can range from individual containers to multi-story buildings. A collection of container buildings is also called a container village .

Often these are temporary buildings that serve to meet acute space requirements at short notice and are dismantled again after a short time. Containers are mainly used when this type of construction offers significant advantages over on-site buildings due to its modularity and mobility . These can be cost advantages or advantages in terms of a shorter construction period. The container modules can be reinserted elsewhere after dismantling. Container constructions are often used for building renovations, conversions or extensions.

Uses

The possible uses are widely spread, here are a few examples:

office
Construction office, public administration
stay
Construction site containers, school containers, accommodation for events
Research and healthcare
temporary clinics
temporary laboratories ( laboratory containers )
Living
Construction site accommodation, refugee accommodation, student housing, military accommodation
technology
As a transmitter building : the complete transmitter can be assembled by the manufacturer and then only needs to be set up and connected.
as a workshop building
as a transformer house
as an emergency power generator for mobile temporary replacement power supply
as a data center building
Exhibition stand construction
Clubs, bars, advertising spaces, lounges

construction

There are two main types of container modules : with the dimensions of the ISO container standards, they are preferably used for modular structures. A distinction is made between edge containers (with more strongly insulated outer walls) and inner containers. The second type are roll-off container systems . The advantage here is that they can be implemented more quickly, since with these systems, apart from the transport vehicle (roll-off container vehicle), no additional lifting gear (truck crane or the like) is required. The possibilities for modular constructions are limited (especially vertically). Containers for roll-off systems are often only made in widths of 2.20 m.

Office containers are fully insulated and pre-installed. Most of the time, the individual containers are made in a panel construction, which enables a flexible arrangement of doors and windows. This also allows the individual modules to be connected to one another to create larger rooms.

Trivia

The residential containers became known through the television program " Big Brother ", in which selected candidates live together in a residential container complex monitored by video cameras around the clock.
