History

Copperas Cove Stagestop and Post Office

The first residents asked the authorities in 1879 to establish a post office and a shop under the name Cove . However, this was not approved as a place of the same name already existed nearby. As a result, the name Coperas Cove was registered because there were mineral-rich springs nearby, but changed in 1901 to the Copperas Cove, which is valid today . With the connection to the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway , the place experienced an economic boom. After the first inhabitants lived mainly from agriculture, the Fort Hood military base is now the main employer.

The list of entries on the National Register of Historic Places in Coryell County and the National Register of Historic Places also list the Copperas Cove Stagestop and Post Office under ID number 79002928.
