Charles Anthony "Peanut" Tillman (born February 23, 1981 in Chicago , Illinois ) is a former American football player on the position of cornerback . He played for the Carolina Panthers and the Chicago Bears in the National Football League (NFL).

Career

college

Tillman played college football for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette until he was selected by the Chicago Bears in the 2003 NFL Draft .

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears selected Tillman in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft . In his freshman year he made 83 tackles and 4 interceptions . In 2004 he missed the entire season due to an injury. After his return in 2005, he made 93 tackles and 5 interceptions, which he made a significant contribution to the fact that the Bears had the best defense of the 2005 season.

On July 24, 2007, the Bears extended Tillman's contract for six years. On December 8, 2007, Tillman was nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award .

In 2009 Tillman was seriously injured in a collision with Safety Craig Steltz when both of them tried to tackle Visanthe Shiancoe . He broke several ribs and collapsed his lungs, causing him to be taken to the hospital. Shortly thereafter, he was elected to the Pro Bowl .

In 2012, he set the Bears' record for most touchdowns (8) by a defender.

On November 4, 2012, Tillman forced four fumbles against the Tennessee Titans , most of those in the NFL, in one game by one player. Shortly thereafter, he was re-elected to the Pro Bowl. In 2013, Tillman injured his right triceps in a game against the Detroit Lions , which ended his season. In February 2014 he was awarded the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award . In 2014 the Bears extended their contract with Tillman for one year.

On April 9, 2015, Tillman signed a one-year contract with the Carolina Panthers .

resignation

On July 18, 2016, he announced his resignation in a video that he published on YouTube . He intends to sign a one-day contract with the Chicago Bears on July 22nd, 2016 to allow him to step down as a Bears player. He then begins a career as a presenter at Fox NFL Kickoff .
