Cornelius Riewerts

Cornelius Riewerts (born September 2, 1940 in Münster ; † February 6, 2012 ) was a German journalist and CDU politician .

education and profession

Riewerts was the son of the art historian Theodor Riewerts , who died as a soldier on the Eastern Front in 1944.

After graduating from high school and doing an editorial traineeship at Ruhr-Nachrichten , Riewerts studied journalism, sociology and art history in Münster, Vienna and Rome. He was active in student self-government and in the student press. From 1966 to 1967 he was editor-in-chief of the student magazine Semesterspiegel .

From 1969 he worked initially as an editor of daily newspapers, including as the chief editor of the Munster newspaper . From 1984 to 2003 he was editor-in-chief of the Oldenburgische Volkszeitung .

politics

Cornelius Riewerts was a member of the CDU and became a member of the Junge Union in 1959. From 1961 to 1963 he was the local spokesman for the Junge Union Westerholt. He also became a member of the district executive committee. From 1966 to 1967 he was a member of the state executive committee of the Junge Union Westfalen-Lippe, and from 1973 he was chairman of the CDU district association Recklinghausen-Stadt und -land.

From July 26, 1970 to May 27, 1975, Cornelius Riewerts was a directly elected member of the 7th Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia for the constituency 095 Recklinghausen-Land III.
