The club initially took part in the national soccer championship of 1956 , but boycotted the competition together with the other clubs in the Ashanti region after a dispute with the United Gold Coast Amateur Football Association , which was finally canceled. Two years later, Cornerstone was one of the eight founding members of the Ghana Football League , in the first two seasons of the league they could celebrate the national runner-up behind Hearts of Oak and city rival Asante Kotoko . In 1959 Cornerstone won the Football Association Cup for the first time in the club's history because the final opponent Hasaacas had been excluded from the competition a few days before the game by the league administration. After losing the cup final in 1963 after a 1-1 draw with 0-2 in a replay against the model club Real Republikans , they were declared cup winners two years later together with them. This decision was preceded by two draws by both clubs. In the 1973 and 1986 seasons, Cornerstone again reached the runner-up, in 1987 the club from Kumasi won the final of the WAFU Club Cup against the Stella Club d'Adjamé (1: 1 and 1: 1, 4: 2 in total. ). In 1989, Cornerstone lost the final of the national soccer cup against Hearts of Oak on penalties .
