Qualification for CAF Champions League , CAF Confederation Cup

The Premier League , after the main sponsor also First Capital Plus Premier League, is the top division in Ghanaian football . It was held for the first time in 1956.

In the Premier League , the Ghanaian football champions are played in the league system in which every club competes against every other club in return matches. The last three teams are relegated to Division One League . This system has changed almost every year in the history of the GPL. The league is organized by the Ghana Football Association and was ranked 11th best league in Africa by the IFFHS from 2001 to 2010. In the worldwide ranking, the league reached 65th place in the first decade (2001-2010) of the 21st century in the category "Best League in the World". Between 2009 and 2013 the league was officially called the “Globacom Premier League” (abbreviation: GPL). In February 2014, First Capital Plus Bank took over the naming rights to the league, which has since been officially called First Capital Plus Bank Premier League .
