The Cape Coast "Mysterious" Ebusua Dwarfs Football Club , short Mysterious Dwarfs ( German  "mysterious dwarfs" ) or Ebusua Dwarfs ( ebusua , Akan for family ), is a football club founded in 1939 from the Ghanaian port city of Cape Coast , which plays its home games in Robert Mensah Sports Stadium .

history

The club took part in the canceled football championship in 1956 and, two years later, was one of the eight founding members of the Ghana Football League, along with city rivals Venomous Vipers . The Mysterious Dwarfs are mistakenly considered the Ghanaian champions of 1966. After the season was canceled as a late consequence of the coup , the Ghanaian participant in the 1968 African Cup of Champions Clubs was determined in a separate competition in 1967 . The club won this “qualification” by tossing a coin after they had split twice with a 1-1 draw from Eleven Wise . In the first round of the national champions' cup, the Mysterious Dwarfs failed against the Nigerian representative Stationery Stores FC (coin toss after 2: 3 and 2: 1). In 1969 the club was able to secure the national cup victory for the only time in the club's history with a 4-2 final victory over the Mighty Eagles . In 1981 the initial descent from excellence, followed by decades of "Crabs" ( German "crabs" ) clubs mentioned as a yo-yo club between the first and second division.

In 1993 and 1994, the Ebusua Dwarfs were defeated by the Obuasi Goldfields (0: 0 n.V., 2: 4 in good.) And Hearts of Oak (1: 2). As a national runner-up they qualified for the CAF Cup 2000 and reached the quarter-finals there after successes over USFAS Bamako (0: 2, 3: 0) and Wydad Casablanca (1: 2, 2: 0), in which the club represented the Egyptian representative Ismaily SC clearly lost (0: 4, 0: 2). In February and March 2014, the Ebusua took part in the CAF Confederation Cup ; after the success over ASC Diaraf (1: 0, 0: 0) they were finally eliminated against Atlético Petróleos Luanda (2: 0, 0: 4). In June 2014, the club had to go back to the second division, but was able to celebrate the direct promotion, so that the team has been back in the Ghana Premier League since 2016. In July 2019, a Cape Coast high court ordered the dissolution of Ebusua Dwarfs FC. The background to this was a failure to release payment for Patrick Villars to the Great Liverpool FC in 1999. In contrast, the association laid appeal a. These were rejected in January 2020; the court ruled instead that the club should be expelled from the Premier League by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Well-known former players of the club are Richard Ackon , Patrick Antwi , Foster Bastios , Kim Grant , Charles Kumi Gyamfi , Ohene Kennedy , Ben Koufie , Derrick Mensah , Robert Mensah , Emmanuel Osei Kuffour , George Owu , Rashid Sumaila and Alex Tachie-Mensah .
