Rashid Sumaila (born December 18, 1992 in Cape Coast ) is a Ghanaian soccer player who has been under contract with the Kuwaiti first division club al Qadsia Kuwait since June 2015 .

Career

Sumaila started playing football at the club with the Ebusua Dwarfs in 2003 , where he went through the youth teams. The center- back made his debut in the Ghana Premier League in the 2010-11 season and was voted the best defender in the league at the end of the season. In November 2011 Sumaila completed a trial training at the French second division club RC Lens , but there was no commitment. Change of the Ghanaian to the Moroccan first division side Maghreb Tétouan or Accra Hearts of Oak failed in the summer of 2012, instead Sumaila was awarded by the Ebusua Dwarfs for a season to the league rivals Asante Kotoko ; with the club he became Ghanaian champions for the first time in his career. In February 2013 the Ghanaian signed a five-year contract with the Mamelodi Sundowns , which will run from June 2013 . At the beginning of May 2014, Sumaila and the team won the South African championship .

In April 2011 Sumaila was at the U-20 African Championship in the squad of the "Black Satellites" (U-20). In 2010 he had already contributed to qualifying for the African Championship. At the Pan-African Games in September 2011 Sumaila contributed significantly to winning the gold medal by the "Black Meteors" (U-23). The senior team coach Goran Stevanović nominated Sumaila two months later for the first time for the "Black Stars" squad . Sumaila made his senior team debut on June 7, 2013 , after being in the provisional squad for the 2012 and 2013 African Championships , when he defeated Albert Adomah in the 80th minute in the 3-1 win over Sudan was substituted on. Coach James Kwesi Appiah appointed the central defender to the provisional squad for the 2014 World Cup in May 2014 . Sumaila played seven international matches without a goal for the "Black Stars" until May 16, 2014.
