Cornifrons is a genus of butterflies from the family of Crambiden (Crambidae).

features

The representatives of the genus Cornifrons are similar to those of the genus Evergestis , but differ in the shape of the forehead ( frons ). On top of it is a strong median process that is compressed on both sides and has a blade-like edge in front. Body and legs are scaled close to the skin. The tegulae are moderately long and provided with pressed scales. The labial palps are scaled adjacent and reach to the forehead protrusion. The side palps are somewhat shorter and thread-like. Ocelles are available. In females, the uncus is triangular and pointed. The Gnathos is short, slender and pointed.

distribution

The representatives of the genus are distributed in southern Europe , North America, North Africa ( Somalia ) and Asia Minor ( Syria ). Under favorable climatic conditions, specimens of Cornifrons ulceratalis can be drifted from North Africa to Europe by strong winds.
