Telcel-Motorola México 200 (2007)

The Corona México 200 was a NASCAR Nationwide Series car race organized by NASCAR Mexico , which took place between 2005 and 2008 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City , Mexico .

The background for this race in Mexico was the strategy of NASCAR to make touring car racing and NASCAR and their Mexican racing series more popular in Mexico in particular. When it was first held in 2005, it was the first point race by a NASCAR top division since 1959 that was not held in the USA . In the years 1996 to 1998 NASCAR drove several races on the Suzuka International Racing Course and the Twin Ring Motegi , however these were not point races, but only served for advertising and test purposes. In 1999 , a point race took place on the Twin Ring Motegi for the NASCAR West Series , a regional NASCAR division.

On July 29, 2008, NASCAR announced that the intended goal of helping NASCAR to achieve a breakthrough in Mexico had been achieved and, accordingly, the race would no longer appear in the Nationwide Series calendar from the 2009 season . The US Cellular 250 replaced the Corona México 200 at the Iowa Speedway , which was held for the first time in the 2009 season.

The race took place for the first time in 2005. Many Mexican racing drivers took the opportunity to experience a good reputation in the USA. Some of these drivers were Adrián Fernández , Mara Reyes (a woman), Carlos Contreras , Michel Jourdain Jr. and Jorge Goeters , who started the race from pole position. Martin Truex junior led the race for a long time, but Adrian Fernández was also in the lead for a short time, which delighted the spectators at the track. Martin Truex Jr. ultimately won the race.

Street course specialist Boris Said came in second , followed by Kevin Harvick , JJ Yeley and Paul Menard .

The Telcel-Motorola Mexico 200 presented by Banamex, which took place on March 4th, was the third race of the 2007 season . It was anticipated with almost as much anticipation as the first race in Mexico in 2005, as it was Juan Pablo Montoya's first street circuit race since joining NASCAR.

The Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya met expectations and won his first NASCAR race on a road course. He is the first rider of South American origin to have succeeded. However, he was noticeable because a few laps before the end he turned his teammate Scott Pruett (# 41) around with an aggressive driving maneuver and thus took the lead.

The race of 2008 did not take place until April 20th, a little later than the races of previous years. Scott Pruett and Kyle Busch dominated the race and it was the latter who emerged victorious. Marcos Ambrose finished second, his best NASCAR result to date, but during the race he crashed Boris Said out of the race, which puts his performance in a worse light. Pruett finished the race in third place. Rookie Colin Braun , who started from pole position, finished the race three laps behind in 33rd place.
