Convent (student union)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The convent (also convention ; from Latin conventus : "gathering") is the decisive organ in the constitution of student associations . There is equality of choice among those entitled to vote (all those present with the exception of the head of the convention; this is usually the senior of the Aktivitas (x) or the old gentry (AHx), if present) . The fact that this "grassroots democratic" Convention principle ran counter to the Führer principle was one of the central points of conflict in the time of National Socialism .

Convent types

Convents come in many types and forms. In some corporate associations, their names are different from those listed here.

  • The active and boys' convention (AK / BK or AC / BC) is the assembly of all boys . These have already made the boys 'promise (the boys' oath) and thus expressed their will to be a lifelong lifelong affiliate. The AC / BC is the central organ of every connection. On it the self-administration is regulated by the active ones. You make the decisions and organize the life of connections, while the old gentlemen (in southern Germany Philistines ) take care of the framework. Whether and with what voting rights they participate in the boys' convention is regulated very differently. In many corporations, Füxen (trial members) are allowed to participate in active conventions. In mixed student associations it is also common for women to take part, for example as foxes, ladies or boys (denotes the status, not the appearance of a member) or choir ladies of the association.
  • The General Convent (AC) has an informal character so that all members (foxes, lads, inactive, old men and other members) can participate. In some places, AC is also used to refer to scientific or informative meetings.
  • The batch convention is the assembly of the batches : the boys' convention elects at least three members from among its members who conduct the business of the association. This body is often referred to as the CHC, and more recently, especially in the case of Catholic connections in Austria, also as the batch cabinet.
  • Old gentlemen's convention is called the general assembly of the old gentlemen in some connections.
  • General Convention, Cumulative Convention, Cumulative Convention or Federal Convention is the common gathering of the active, the inactive and the elderly . Foxes are usually not eligible to participate.
  • Renoncen- or foxconvent are gatherings of the foxes under the direction of the fox major . Here the young learns to debate , to deal with rules of procedure and to take majority decisions . In addition, topics can be proposed to the fox major for presentation at the BC.
  • In the case of striking connections, the scale convention (MC) meets after each or after several lengths of the federal brothers. He evaluates the defeated "game" according to certain criteria. He is led by the fencer .

Convention secret

As a rule, only members of the student association concerned are admitted to conventions. Traditionally, the convention secret applies to the course of the negotiations of the convent. The results, on the other hand, are usually communicated internally and sometimes externally. The convention secrecy makes it possible to speak openly at the convention. The violation of the convention secrecy is punished, depending on the severity, with the exclusion from the association. For student associations, the convention secret was always a means of confidentiality and unity in the event of hostile attacks from outside, for example during the time of National Socialism.

corps

Corps Lusatia Leipzig in the Hotel de Prusse in Leipzig (50th foundation festival 1857)

The corps boys' convent of a corps includes the charged , the active corps boys (CB), the inactive (iaCB) and the corps loop bearers (IdC). Foxes and connoisseurs have neither a seat nor a vote. The regular Corpsburschen-Convent (oCC) meets weekly during the semester. Extraordinary CC (aoCC) can be scheduled at any time. The CC is managed by the senior . In the event of a tie, his vote is decisive. With the exception of criminal cases in one's own matter, abstention is frowned upon. If a corps student realizes wrong behavior, he has to report it himself to the CC for evaluation.

The highest body of a corps is the Festliche Corpsburschen-Convent (FCC), which usually meets once a year at the foundation festival . In some corps the elderly gentlemen also have the right to vote. Other names for FCC are Generalconvent (Austria) or Bundesconvent ( life corps ).

After each measure , the measure convention (MC) meets, evaluates the game and decides whether it is sufficient. The MC is directed by the Consenior . The youngest corps boy is responsible for the first measurement of the length. Finally, the consenior evaluates the morale, technique and attacking spirit of the Paukanten .
