Corrado Segre (born August 20, 1863 in Saluzzo , † May 18, 1924 in Turin ) was an Italian mathematician who mainly dealt with geometry .

Segre studied under Enrico D'Ovidio in Turin , where he received his doctorate in 1883 on quadrics in higher dimensions . In the same year his correspondence with Felix Klein began . In 1888 he took over the professorship for geometry in Turin from his teacher and kept it for the rest of his career. Along with Luigi Cremona, Segre was one of the founders of the Italian geometric school. a. with algebraic geometry . He found a new birational invariant of algebraic surfaces (Zeuthen-Segre invariant), studied algebraic surfaces generated by algebraic curves and gave a new representation of the sorrow surface . He was also very interested in didactic questions.

In 1904 he gave a plenary lecture at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Heidelberg (La geometria d'oggidi ei suoi legami coll'analisi).

His students include Gino Fano , Beppo Levi , Francesco Severi and, after completing their studies, Guido Castelnuovo and Federigo Enriques .

The Segre Embed and the asteroid (29910) Segre were named after him.
