Corrections House is a metal band founded in 2012 . Because of the musicians involved, the band is considered a supergroup of the American metal underground.

history

The band was formed during 2012 by Mike Williams ( EyeHateGod , Outlaw Order ), Scott Kelly ( Neurosis , Shrinebuilder ), Sanford Parker ( Nachtmystium , Twilight ) and Bruce Lamont ( Yakuza , Bloodiest ). The musicians occasionally mentioned the joint project in interviews, but did not provide any further information. The original idea of the musicians was a joint tour with individual performances by the different musicians. In the preparation of the tour, a few first pieces were created together, which they wanted to create as a joint appearance during the planned tour. In December 2012, the band members announced tour plans for the first two months of 2013. With the tour announcement, Corrections House released the band's name. At the start of the tour, Lamont and Parker's label War Crime Recordings released the band's first music video for the track Hoax the System and announced it would soon be released as a single. During the tour the musicians improvised with each other and supported each other during the performances of the other musicians, whereby parts of the presented solo programs increasingly manifested themselves as material of the band. With the release of the single on April 2, 2013, a music video about War Crime Recordings was also released for the second track on the single Grin with a Purpose . In October of the same year the band released the album Last City Zero and went on a European tour. The album was received mostly positively. In Sonic Seducer , one of the music magazines of the black scene , it was called an insider tip. The metal magazine Metal Hammer described the album as a "great [and] subtle work of art".

After the European tour, the musicians returned to their main projects, but occasionally appeared with Corrections House. In December 2014, the live album Writing History was published in Advance . The album documents the live performance on January 5, 2014 and does not contain any subdivisions of the individual pieces of music. The album, released through War Crime Recordings, was rarely critically reviewed. The few existing reviews were mostly positive. In spring 2015, the band toured Europe again. On October 23, 2015, the band released the second studio album Know How to Carry a Whip . The second studio album was released again via Neurot Recordings and received more and more positive feedback.

style

The band plays an independent mix of alternative , doom and industrial metal . Due to the musicians involved, the band is also assigned to the genre areas post-metal and sludge .

Thomas Sonder from Metal Hammer calls it “almost impossible” to “musically define” Corrections House. Rather, the band creates “something completely new”. Tim Röttges from Sonic Seducer underlines this impression and describes the music as an idiosyncratic mixture "somewhere between spoken word performance [sic!], Noise [and] quieter acoustic tones". Both Sonder and Röttges compare the music with the early works of the industrial metal pioneers Ministry . White Zombie , Slayer , Sanctum , In Slaughter Natives , Einstürzende Neubauten , Cult of Luna , Isis , Godflesh and Nine Inch Nails are named as further comparative variables . The music emerges in "headache core [...] between harsh electronics and choking sludge", but also has a " folky side" which " evaporates into ambient spheres [e.]" According to Terrorverlag magazine, "the songs are based on the Loops and beats designed by Sanford Parker [...] on which a skeleton was built from riffs by Kelly and Bruce Lamont, “Mike IX finally finalizes the pieces.
