The Corrientes was a cargo ship with passenger facilities that was built by Mitchell in Newcastle in 1881 for the Hamburg-South American Steamship Company ( Hamburg Süd ).

The Corrientes was launched in September 1881 at the Charles Mitchell and Company shipyard and was put into service by Hamburg Süd in November of the same year. In November 1881 she made her first trip from Hamburg to Santos. On April 29, 1890, the Corrientes ran aground off Montevideo .
