Joachim Braun (born December 27, 1965 in Lüneburg ) is a German journalist . From March 2011 to January 2016 he was editor-in-chief of the Nordbayerischer Kurier in Bayreuth , then until April 2018 editor-in-chief of the Frankfurter Neue Presse . In November 2018 he took up a position as editor-in in empty appearing Ostfriesen-Zeitung on.

Life

After graduating from the Gabriel-von-Seidl-Gymnasium Bad Tölz in 1984 , Braun worked with interruptions for 27 years for the newspaper publisher Oberbayern, which publishes the local editions of the Münchner Merkurs . After an internship at Tölzer Kurier and a one and a half year interlude at Rundschau-Verlag in Penzberg , he moved to Isar-Loisachboten in Wolfratshausen in 1989 . There he worked as deputy editor-in-chief until he returned to Tölzer Kurier in 1997 as editor-in-chief.

From there he moved in 2011 as editor-in-chief to the Nordbayerischer Kurier as well as to the Ring Nordbayerischer Tageszeitungen (RNT) in Bayreuth and completely "turned" the newspaper inside out. Since October 2011, the club's reporting has been outsourced to a weekly supplement called Mein Verein . The Bayreuth CSU primarily blamed Braun for the lost mayor election in 2012 .

From 2004 to 2008, Braun was a member of the local journalists project team at the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb). Braun has been a lecturer in investigative research in local journalism at the MAZ in Lucerne (Switzerland) since 2009 . In 2010 he was a lecturer at the Benediktbeuern University of Applied Sciences and in 2010 and 2011 led local journalism seminars in Minsk and Brest in Belarus on behalf of the Dortmund International Education and Encounter Association .

In 1995 and 2008 Braun was each awarded a special prize at the German Local Journalist Prize of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation : for his book "Ende und Neubeginn" about the Nazi era in Wolfratshausen and for researching the so-called DTK affair about the failed conversion of the former Bad Tölz Flint barracks , where the CSU-led Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district put 15 million euros in the sand, as the Bavarian Municipal Auditing Association later determined.

In January 2013, a 70-member jury from the trade journal Medium Magazin named Braun “Editor-in-Chief (Regional) of the year”.
