The Coryneliaceae are a family of the hose mushrooms and form their own order Coryneliales .

features

The fruiting bodies ( Ascomata ) are ascolocular, the Asci are fissitunicat. The morphological features mediate between the two large subclasses Eurotiomycetidae and Chaetothyriomycetidae. The asci are spherical to pear-shaped. Mostly they are called unitunicat or prototunicat. In the young stages of development they are bitunicate, the second layer disappears in the course of development. When ripe, the ascus wall tears open irregularly and releases the spores within the fruiting body. The ascospores are unicellular and spherical.

The sex organs are spermogonia and spermatia . The other two orders of the subclass are hyphae gametangia.

Anamorphs are known of only one genus, Coryneliopsis , which are placed in the coelomycetic genus Anthracoderma .

Way of life and distribution

Most species live as parasites on woody plants, especially on Podocarpaceae in the southern hemisphere. Some species infest conifers in the northern hemisphere.

Systematics

External system

The Coryneliales are now placed as a basal group in the subclass Eurotiomycetidae . They are a monophyletic taxon . The subclass cladogram looks like this:

 Onygenales

 Eurotiales

 Coryneliales

The relationship of the Coryneliales to the other two orders and the classification in the Eurotiomycetidae was only revealed after DNA sequence analyzes. Eriksson 2006 had still led the order as incertae sedis within the Pezizomycotina.
