Cosmas Alder

Cosmas Alder (* around 1497 in Baden ; † November 7, 1550 in Bern ) was a Swiss composer and magistrate .

biography

Alder attended the St. Vinzenz Abbey School in Bern until 1511. In 1524 he was confirmed as a singer (not cantor ) at St. Vinzenz Abbey in Bern. After the introduction of the Reformation , Alder was elected builder clerk on April 15, 1528. He held this office until his death. In the same year he also became a clerk for the Frienisberg conductor. He wrote several land records for the Frienisberg house in Bern. Cosmas Alder married Barbara von Höfen. In 1538 he came to the Grand Council . On August 7, 1542 he elected him to be the clerk of the Upper Hospital. From 1543 he is recorded as a journeyman of the Society of Middle Lions . After the death of his first wife, Alder married Barbara Schwäbler on December 9, 1545. He died of the plague in the winter of 1550 .
