Courbefy
Courbefy is a hamlet in the Bussière-Galant commune in the Haute-Vienne department and has been a ghost town since 2008 .
geography
The hamlet is at an altitude of 530 meters. Courbefy is six kilometers east of Bussière-Galant and 40 kilometers southwest of Limoges , the next largest city. The entire place, with the exception of the south, is surrounded by forest. The region is Nouvelle-Aquitaine , the department is Haute-Vienne , and the canton is Châlus . Courbefy is in the community of Bussière-Galant.
history
Courbefy is said to have had a fortress in the Middle Ages, but because there was a robber's den nearby, it was demolished as a punishment on behalf of the consul of Limoges. Courbefy was an independent municipality during the French Revolution . In 1800 it was merged with the neighboring parish of Saint-Nicolas to Saint-Nicolas-Courbefy.
On November 15, 1973, Saint-Nicolas was incorporated into Bussière-Galant; so Courbefy was "alone" again. Since the 1970s, the place has changed hands three times; in the meantime it served as a holiday camp for children. The last owner went bankrupt in 2008 and with him the last resident left the village.
Courbefy was released from a foreclosure auction in February 2012. The auction was won by the South Korean businessman Yoo Byung-eun for the equivalent of € 520,000. However, Yoo was found dead in 2014. The village is still uninhabited.
