Covas do Douro is a village in northern Portugal .

The municipality is located south of the small town of Sabrosa in the mountains of the Alto Douro , the oldest protected wine-growing region in the world since 1756 ( UNESCO World Heritage since 2001 ). There are numerous wineries (quintas) in the municipality. The Capela de São Salvador do Mundo is located in Chanceleiros .
