Donelo do Douro is a village in the Freguesia Covas do Douro in northern Portugal and belongs to the Douro sub-region . Donelo covers an area of 3 km², has 112 inhabitants (2001) and is 7 km from the Douro . It belongs to the Alto Douro , the oldest protected wine-growing area in the world ( UNESCO World Heritage since 2001 ).
economy
The population of the place lives mainly from agriculture or viticulture . Among other things, grapes for the famous port wine are grown here. The fertile lands on the Douroufer are productive. Donelo has three cafes, a workshop, two schools, a cemetery, two construction companies, two wells and a Catholic chapel.
history
Numerous ruins and archaeological finds, also from the Moorish era, suggest an early settlement.
