Covington is a city in St. Tammany Parish in the US state of Louisiana and the administrative seat of Parish .

history

The earliest European settlement was in 1800 by Jacques Dreux . In 1813, John Wharton Collins founded the city called Wharton. The city was later renamed after the war hero General Leonard Covington from the British-American War .

According to the 2000 census, 8,483 people live in 3,258 households and 2,212 families in the city. In the city, 26.8% are under 18 years old, 8.5% are 18 to 24, 26.1% are 25 to 44, 24.1% are 45 to 64, and 14.5% are over 65. The average age is 38. For every 100 women there are 86.8 men.
