Craig Anthony Robert Mackail-Smith (born February 25, 1984 in Watford ) is a Scottish football player who has been under contract with the English fourth division club Luton Town since 2015 . From 2011 to 2012 he also played for the Scottish national team .
Player career
Peterborough United (2007-2011)
On January 29, 2007, Craig Mackail-Smith moved to fourth division Peterborough United , after he had previously proven his scoring skills at the English fifth division Dagenham & Redbridge . In the Football League Two 2007/08 Mackail-Smith (36 games / 12 goals) rose to the third division with his new team. Also in the Football League One 2008/09, the promoted team found their way well and managed to march straight through to the second division as runner-up behind Leicester City . Craig Mackail-Smith scored twenty-three league goals, making it his team's top scorer. The season in the Football League Championship 2009/10 turned out to be much more demanding. Peterborough won only eight of the forty-six league games and rose as bottom of the table in the third division. The return to the Football League One 2010/11 was not permanent, however, the team around the top scorer Mackail-Smith (45 games / 27 goals) moved into the play-offs in fourth place and defeated 3-0 in the final Huddersfield Town through. At the end of the season, he was voted third division PFA Team of the Year .
Brighton & Hove Albion (2011-2015)
On July 4, 2011, Craig Mackail-Smith moved to Brighton & Hove Albion and signed a four-year contract. The club had previously risen to the second-rate Football League Championship together with Peterborough . While in Brighton, he was loaned out to his previous club, Peterborough United, in 2014. After his contract expired, he moved to the fourth division Luton Town .
Scottish National Team (2011-2012)
Craig Mackail-Smith made his debut on March 27, 2011 in a 2-0 defeat against Brazil for the Scottish national team. His first goal was in his third international match in a 1-0 win in Liechtenstein.
