The Crambinae are a subfamily of the Crambidae . So far about 1900 species are known worldwide, in Central Europe there are almost 80 species.

features

The Crambinae are distinguished from the other subfamilies of the proboscis by a special formation of the tympanic organs and the male genital organs .

Way of life

The subfamily Crambinae includes many species whose caterpillars feed on the roots or in the stems of grasses. Mass occurrences can damage crops such as corn, sugar cane, rice and other grasses.

The subfamily currently contains around 90 recognized genera. Only the genera occurring in Central Europe are listed here.
