Crispian Steele-Perkins (* 1944 in Exeter ) is an English trumpeter .

Life and professional activity

Crispian Steele-Perkins began playing the trumpet when he was ten. At sixteen he became a member of the English National Youth Orchestra. He then studied at the Guildhall School of Music with Ernest Hall and Bernard Brown.

His artistic career began as an orchestral musician. He worked at Sadler's Wells Theater (later English National Opera ) from 1966 , was a member of the London Gabrielli Brass Ensemble from 1974 to 1984 , of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra from 1976 to 1980 , of the English Baroque Soloists from 1980 to 1991 , and of 1985 to 2009 of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and since 2009 of the Retrospect Ensemble .

Steele-Perkins was a key figure in the beginning of the historical early music movement . He became one of the most important players of the baroque trumpet in Great Britain and an important exponent of historical performance practice . In 2004 he received the Christopher Monk Award .

In addition to his work as a baroque trumpeter, he was also known as a classical trumpeter on modern instruments.

Steele-Perkins recorded the theme song for the television series Antiques Roadshow and has also become world famous as a soloist in well-known film melodies such as the James Bond filmIn a Deadly Mission ” and in the Lord of the Rings film adaptationThe Two Towers ”.

He is the duo partner of internationally known singers and has performed with Emma Kirkby , Lynne Dawson , Carolyn Sampson , Bryn Terfel and Lesley Garrett , among others . Leading the way were his recordings of Handel - Arias "Let the bright Seraphim" with Kiri Te Kanawa and " Eternal Source of Light Divine " with James Bowman .

Steele-Perkins teaches trumpet and is a lecturer in numerous master classes.

He lives in Dorking , Surrey . From 1961 to 1991 he was married to Angela Helen Hall, after whose death he married Jane Elizabeth Mary Steele-Perkins in 1995. He is the father of three children.
