Cristina Torrão

Cristina Torrão (born July 16, 1965 in Castelo de Paiva ) is a Portuguese writer. She lives in the north German Hanseatic city of Stade . Historical novels are a focus of her works.

Life

Torrão studied English and German language and literature at the University of Porto . She then worked for a time for the public service broadcaster Radiodifusão Portuguesa (RDP) in the region of northern Portugal.

In 1992 she went to Hamburg . She taught Portuguese as a foreign language for locals at various institutions there , but also as a mother tongue for children of Portuguese parents in Germany .

Later she went to Stade with her husband Horst Neumann, where she gave up her job and has lived as a writer ever since.

In July 2007, her novel A Moura eo Cruzado won the O meu primeiro best-seller literary award in Portugal , which is awarded in cooperation with the Modelo-Continente supermarket chain, Edições Asa publisher and Visão magazine . She then revised the novel and it was republished under the title A Cruz de Esmeraldas . Since then, various other books have been published, mostly with reference to people from the history of Portugal .
