features

Crocus cartwrightianus is a perennial tuber geophyte that reaches heights of 4 to 10 centimeters. The leaves are mostly ciliate. The tuber shell consists of fine mesh fibers. The throat is white and downy at the point of attachment of the stamens. The flowers are lilac to purple in color with dark veins or white with sometimes a purple background. They are of the same color on the outside. The branches of the style are red and long. The anthers and pollen are yellow.

The flowering period extends from October to December.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

Occurrence

Crocus cartwrightianus occurs in the Aegean Sea . In Crete, the species grows in open phrygana, lawns and pine forests at altitudes of 30 to 120 meters.
