The River Crouch is a 40 km long coastal river in Essex in south east England .
course
The Crouch River rises in the hills at Basildon and flows steadily in an easterly direction, with its estuary being influenced by the tides of the North Sea up to about Battlesbridge . It forms the southern border of the flat Dengie Peninsula and flows into the North Sea between Holliwell Point and Foulness Point .
economy
There used to be a large number of fishermen on its shores , but now boat tourism has played a far greater role.
